The Old Sawmill Tearoom is now open daily 10am to 4.30pm

Extending warm hospitality to locals and visitors alike, The Old Sawmill Tearoom is always popular with walkers, cyclists, bird-watchers and visitors to Mirehouse. The tearoom specialises in homemade Cumbrian cooking and has some new treats on the menu this season.

Among the favourites are:

• The Old Sawmill Special (a large Cumberland sausage in a roll with apple sauce served with salads),
• Homemade pizzas, soup and sandwiches
• Lakeland Ice creams. delicious cakes, cinnamon gingerbread and weekly specials.

The Old Sawmill is at the end of many other walks besides the walk to Bassenthwaite Lake through Mirehouse Grounds. From here you can reach the top of Dodd, Ullock Pike and Skiddaw. The many beautiful Forestry Commission walks on Dodd pass the door.

The footpath to St. Bega’s Church and Scarness starts here. There is also a valuable footpath link to the south, which avoids the risks of walking along the A591 and connects with the paths from Underskiddaw, Keswick and Braithwaite.

Visitors with dogs are very welcome at the tables outside the cafe.

The history of the building and the area is outlined on the walls of the tearoom along with a display of old photographs and forest tools.

The tearoom stands in the car-park opposite the entrance to Mirehouse.

Getting Here:
It is three and a half miles north of Keswick on the A591, on the right hand side of the road as you are travelling north.
